Our cattle are rotationally grazed during all the pasture season, and eat primarily hay (and trees) in the winter, although we supplement with minimal grain during the direst weather. Because it takes a long time to build a beef herd, we buy in the beef we offer in the CSA through Gordon Farms in nearby New York. They raise exclusively grass-fed, all-natural Angus/Hereford crosses. We are glad to have the chance to work with them while we build our pastures and our herd.
These are our working heifers, who are growing up fast to become mama cows. They provide us with work, milk, calves, and love.
In fact, as of November 2012, they have graduated from “heifer” to “mama!” Little Looney Lovegood is growing like nobody’s business, in spite of being about four months earlier than we were planning on!
